About Julie
Having worked in the charity sector since July 2015, Julie is the Regional Community Fundraiser for Shelter, based in Bristol.
Her role is to build local relationships within the community and to inform people about the current housing emergency.
“The current housing emergency is something that I feel very passionate about.
During the first lockdown in March 2020, I was furloughed from my role and took the opportunity to work for several small local community organisations.
During that time, I saw first-hand the huge impact of homelessness in the city of Bristol. I found that experience both humbling and inspiring in equal measures and that is what drove me to work for Shelter.”
Founded in 1966, Shelter helps people in housing need by providing advice and practical assistance. Fighting for better investment in housing, and for laws and policies to improve the lives of homeless and badly housed people.
About Shelter
Shelter exists to defend the right to a safe home.
The charity campaigns to end homelessness and bad housing across England and Scotland. Offering advice, legal support, and emergency help to thousands of people every year.
Through their national helpline, community hubs, and policy work, Shelter pushes for lasting change, from tackling unfair evictions to pushing for more affordable housing.
Working in partnership with Shelter Cymru in Wales and the Housing Rights Service in Northern Ireland.
In Julie’s session, she’ll share how Shelter continues to gain support even when times are tough. Drawing thoughtful parallels with the hospitality sector, where holidays are often seen as a luxury rather than a given.
