Funding your app

There are many initiatives available regionally such as The UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). Find out how to locate and apply for funding in your area.

Secure funding for your app with UKSPF

Staying ahead of the competition is essential, and with the move towards digital experiences, adopting new technologies is no longer a nice-to-have.

However, with many of us having to cut costs, funding new innovations can seem impossible. But it doesn’t have to be.

Existing Holidaymaker client Meadowhead funded their own guest app using a Scottish Government Grant.

What is UKSPF?

The United Kingdom Shared Prosperity Fund aims to bridge the gap between communities across the UK by supporting economic development and boosting local strengths.

Hospitality businesses can tap into this fund to introduce innovative solutions like guest experience apps, potentially making a significant impact on their success and the local economy.

How to apply

Step 1 Find your local Authority

Firstly, identify Your Local Authority here:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/uk-shared-prosperity-fund-prospectus

Get in contact with the Economic Development department of your Local Authority to get an understanding of the type of grant funding that is available in your area – the UKPSF amount available, can vary from Council to Council.

Step 2 Create a Business Proposal

Highlight the benefits of your app

  • Explain how your app solves problems for guests and improves their experience (e.g., easier booking, local recommendations).
  • Use numbers to show the expected positive impact: happier guests, more visitors, and more money spent at local businesses.
  • Remember, UKSPF wants to see results, so focus on measurable outcomes.

Develop a Robust Project Plan and Budget

  • Outline implementation and costs
  • Clearly define the app development process, timeline, and associated costs.
  • Ensure your budget breakdown is detailed and justifies each expense, adhering to UKSPF value for money principles.

Show how your app aligns with national and local priorities

  • Check your local investment plan for specific priorities (e.g., job creation, community engagement).
  • Research Local Investment Plans, there may be other funding opportunities locally.
  • Check your local authority’s UKSPF investment plan, usually available on their website.
  • Show how your app aligns with existing local development plans and priorities.
  • Explain how your app contributes to these priorities, for example by:
    • Demonstrating benefits to the local community, potentially attracting more visitors, and supporting local businesses.
    • Up-skilling your staff by training them on the app.
    • Improving digital infrastructure by bringing more technology to your area.
    • Building community partnerships by collaborating with local tourism boards or businesses.
    • Driving innovation within your business and the broader hospitality sector.
    • Empowering your staff and enhances guest experience infrastructure.

Outline the benefits of a guest app

  • Elevate the guest experience – Offer personalised services, access to local attractions, and seamless communication through your app.
  • Attract more visitors – Enhance your online presence and showcase unique offerings, potentially drawing in new customers.
  • Boost local businesses – Encourage guests to explore and spend within the local community, driving economic growth.
  • Contribute to your community – Showcase your commitment to local development and building a vibrant guest experience.
  • Support your staff – Free up busy staff and enhance communication.

I see the app as fundamental to us developing our customer offering and in keeping in touch with customer prior, during and post-holiday, and it’s not all about sending sales messages but rather building a relationship.

Collaborate for a stronger proposal

  • Partner with other organisations like local authorities, tourism boards, or businesses.
  • This shows wider community support and aligns your project with existing initiatives.
  • For example, partnering with a tourism board or local businesses could integrate your app with local attractions.

Step 3 Submit and prepare for evaluation

  • Meet deadlines – Adhere to the submission deadlines set by your local authority. These vary depending on the specific funding round, so stay informed through their official channels.
  • Actively engage – After submitting, express your continued interest and proactively address any questions or requests for clarification from the authorities.
  • Prepare for evaluation – Be ready to demonstrate your project’s merit based on its alignment with priorities, impact on local communities, and value for money.
  • Deliver and report – Once approved, implement your project, and adhere to reporting requirements, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Remember

Ask for help

  • We are happy to support your application where needed.
  • Seek Guidance from experts such as grant writers or consultants familiar with UKSPF application processes.

Very satisfied with support from Holidaymaker, who listen, provide great on-site support including team user orientation, we continue to develop ideas and ways we can use the app as our journey with Holidaymaker continues, the insight metrics are also growing because of listening to our feedback, onwards and upwards!!
